Color Change Tutorial
There are many ways to do color changes in crochet. Depending on what you are doing, you may choose to use different methods for different projects. This is my favorite way to do it for projects in the round.
There are many ways to do color changes in crochet. Depending on what you are doing, you may choose to use different methods for different projects. This is my favorite way to do it for projects in the round.
Step 1: Finish off the round with the same color for your joining slip stitch.
Step 2: Pull through a loop of your next color.
Step 3: Flip the project over. Here you can see the loop of the last color and its tail, you can also see the new tail of the new color.
Step 4: Tie a half knot with the new color tail and the previous color tail and pull the previous color tightly so that the loop almost disappears.
Step 5: Turn your work over.
Step 6: Pull on the feed yarn of the new color until the loop on the hook is gauged to the hook you are using. Don’t pull tightly!
Now you are ready to continue your pattern with the new color. This leaves a small chain at the beginning of the round but keeps the colors from “bleeding” into new rounds and creates clean changes.
