Hue-Mongous yarn is ethically sourced. What does that mean?

When we were researching and developing our line of yarn it was important to create something that was socially and environmentally responsible. This was no flight of fancy, but rather a years long process looking for partners that held to the same principles.

Social responsibility

To ensure that the humans involved in turning Hue-Mongous yarn into a reality were being treated and paid fairly, were working in safe and humane conditions, and could exercise their fundamental human rights while working, we researched countries first, then mills, then we asked for credentials that substantiated these goals. After much time and discussion we were rewarded with a partnership in the Balkans, specifically in Bulgaria.

The mill we work with is BSCI certified/verified (BSCI stands for Business Social Compliance Initiative). This verification assures compliance with UN and global ethical standards in the areas of: labor rights, health and safety, non-discrimination, environmental stability,  fair working hours, NO child labor or forced labor. More about BSCI compliance can be found here.

Environmental responsibility

In addition to our commitment to social responsibility we are also concerned with how Madlandia products and packaging impact the environment. Our partner mill is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified.

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification means:

  • The certified article is harmless to human health
  • Every thread has been tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances
  • The more intensive the skin contact, the stricter the human ecology requirements and laboratory tests
  • Globally standardized test criteria
  • The certification complies with international requirements and regulations
  • Reviewed limit values for harmful substances at least once a year
